Crazy Semester

It's been awhile since I've last posted, so I thought I'd post about something that has been restricting my time.

There are a few things I've learned about being a Hanover College Student.

1) Not everybody knows each other, despite the campus' size (less than 1,000 students). Which makes it interesting because you can still meet new people!

2) Despite not knowing everybody, you've at least seen everybody on the campus, so there aren't many new faces; merely new friends. Example: "Hey, weren't you in my *insert class name here* class with me last semester? I thought I recognized you!"

3) Hanover students work about twice as hard as students at other colleges, on average.

4) Every semester, there will be one class that is the class that you either complain about consistently or struggle in consistently, no matter how much you study.

5) Every semester, there is a period of 2-5 days, usually 2-3 weeks before finals week, in which every student on campus is stressed at the same time, to the point of screaming, killing themselves and others. Okay not really, but there is a point in which everybody is so stressed that no one can tolerate to even look at each other for an extended period of time without snapping. So you folks at home, don't mess with these students during this sensitive time in the semester.

That is all.

Purely Venting

Okay, so I know I say I'm in a stage right now where I'm not interested in anybody, but in truth, I kind of am. I can't help it. It's human nature to want to be with some one and it's my nature to feel lonely when I haven't had much social interaction (which I haven't had lately because of the mono).

So, here's the thing. A strong part of me is very much in love with my best friend. I know this, he knows this, my friends know this. When we aren't together (i.e. I'm at school or whatever) I totally feel it, 100% of the time. It's a deep feeling that I haven't felt in a long time, and I know it's real. Whenever he's out with friends, I'm jealous, and that is just me caring! I know it is! I've learned this from myself over time. But I wouldn't be jealous of someone that I only cared about as a friend would I? No!

Anyway, sitting here, typing away while he's 100 miles away is when I feel it the most. I miss him, I love him, and I know he feels the same way. Do I love him because he loves me? Or is it legitimate? That is an entirely different question that will be dealt with at a later date. Moving on!

Then, when we are actually together, the feelings fade. How? Why? I have no idea. They just aren't as strong or they aren't there at all. This might be a bad sign! I've never had this before and God knows I don't know what it means. *pause to think*

Why would the feelings fade? Am I creating some perfect image of a man in my head and then realizing that image isn't real when I see him?

That sounded very mean. He's wonderful, just not perfect. Nobody is. I'm not. Lord help me, I'm not even close.

But I can't decide if it would work or not.

And here is the other thing: I'm in love again with one of my ex's! Wait, strike that. I never fell out of love with him. We only broke up because of circumstance. I'm still very much in love with him but I have no idea if we'll ever live close enough together again to make it work. I would love it if it did, because I really felt that he was the one. I think he felt it too. But we were in high school (and barely in college). A lot has changed. Maybe I shouldn't keep my hopes up.

But here's the thing. I kind of do want to keep my hopes up. Because I was very much in love with him. And what if the thing with my best friend doesn't work out? What if I do realize that I just love him as a friend and nothing more? Then my heart is open to my ex again.

I can't rule anybody out right now. And I can't date anybody right now because it wouldn't be fair to them.

Hm.

Piles of Chocolate

This past weekend I tested positive for mono, so I've been taking it easy here at school, going to class when I can, and resting the majority of the time.

My father called and said, "Hey, I want to come visit you and see how you're doing."

I say, "Sure, sounds good."

He says, "Can I bring you anything?"

I say, "Chocolate. I'm craving some chocolate."

Well, not knowing exactly what I wanted, my father sent out one of his employees to buy me some chocolate.

I thought I'd share what was brought to me.

Okay, let's make a list:
- One 6-pack Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bunnies
- Two York Peppermint Patties
- One 2-pack King Size Heath Bars
- One 3-pack Dove "Silky Smooth Milk Chocolate" bar
- One pound milk chocolate Easter themed M&M's
- Three Cadbury Creme Eggs
- Four 3-pack generic decorated marshmallow treats
- One 12-pack Little Debbie Big Pack Cosmic Brownies
- One 30 count Hershey's Variety Pack including full size bars of Hershey's chocolate, Hershey's chocolate plus Almonds, Kit Kats, Reese's Cups, and some other type of Reese's bar
- many hot chocolate mixes in many varieties

I wish I had a calorie count on this.

Seriously though, who needs all this?! My God.

Want any?

Is it me? I'm not sure what I do to attract these kinds of people. All I've been hunting for is a few good friends, and I guess I'm not as appealing as a friend as I used to be (though others have argued otherwise). Thoughts? I know I'm really talking to myself here, but I just don't get why some people think it's okay to lift themselves up by bringing others down. Such is life.

Here are some beautiful images that I've found while Stumbling. Seriously, if you don't Stumble, there is something wrong with you. It's the best. Note: None of these images are mine.

Songs I want to learn the dance to

I have many goals that I want to accomplish in good time, but one of the most doable ones is learning the dance routine for a few old, and new songs. Let's start off easy. Here are a few that I already know the dance to.

The Electric Slide The video for it is actually pretty funny. The Electric Slide is pretty easy.

Cotton Eyed Joe Okay, this video is actually funnier than the first. Pretty entertaining, and again, a pretty easy dance.

Soulja Boy Haha. Of course I know the Soulja Boy. Who doesn't know the Soulja Boy? You don't? Oh. My bad...

Cupid Shuffle Okay, he gives you instructions in the song. Of course you can do the Cupid Shuffle.

Now on to dances that I want to learn:

Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It) I don't quite have the body to do what Beyonce can do, but that won't stop me from trying. Haha!

Don't Stop the Rock The only video of the dance I can find is a clip from the movie "Boys and Girls" (which is pretty cute if you're into a chick flick). The dance starts about 30 seconds into the vid, and looks really fun!

Walk it Out Looks pretty fun.

Here It Goes Again So it isn't really a dance, but the fact that this was all done in one straight, uncut take just blows my mind. Very cool.

And I saved the best for last:

Thriller Michael Jackson may have a bad rep, but he can sure as hell dance! Yeah!

Tissue Review (brief)

So I have a sinus infection that has gotten way out of hand. In my bed-ridden hours, I've been comparing different types of tissue.

Toilet Paper: This stuff sucks. Particularly the generic 1/2 ply that is supplied for dorm rooms and student housing. Way too rough for my sensitive skin.

Puffs (yes, Puffs has a website): Eh, it's okay for the occasional sniffle, but it wasn't cutting it for me and my excessive sneezing.

Puffs Plus Lotion: Feels very good. Much smoother on my skin. This stuff is like 3 ply, making it super soft. My hands feel a bit oily after using it though.

Puffs Plus Lotion and Vicks: Oh man. This stuff feels and smells awesome! They laced Vicks Vapor whatever into each tissue and it smells and feels really good. The only bad part is that the Vicks burns my eyes.

So there you have it. Puffs Plus Lotion is the way to go unless you dig Vicks. It costs a pretty penny more than the generic stuff, but if you're fighting a sinus infection or allergies, it's worth it. I promise.

The next post will likely be something along the lines of what dances I want to learn in the near future (I just watched Michael Jackson's "Thriller" again...)

Windows 7 Beta

Okay, so I could be preparing for class, but I just don't feel like it. And there are probably 10 other productive things I could be doing right now, but I just don't have the strength. Damn allergies.

So, about a month ago I downloaded and installed the beta for Windows 7, which replaced my Windows Vista entirely (which I'm perfectly fine with). The gadgets are still available and are now movable about the desktop, which is pretty cool. Someone was quick to develop a new gadget for Pandora, which I was expecting.

I won't touch on all the new details that 7 brings, but there are a few things I'd like to touch on:

Regarding the taskbar: This turned out very well. Minimizing items doesn't take up nearly as much space, and instead of having multiple bars for each window of, say, IE, it clumps all the windows together until you scroll over the icon, then it shows a miniature preview of each window and lets you browse through what all is open. Very handy and clever.

Regarding the start menu: Similarly with the taskbar, where appropriate, when the program title is scrolled over, a preview of documents is available to look at (ex. Word). Very handy as well when you want to open up something quickly.

Regarding compatibility (one issue with iTunes): iTunes no longer minimizes into a player on the taskbar, which is an annoyance at most. Or maybe I'm not doing something right. But everything else so far seems to be compatible.

More review of Windows 7 to come.
